OpenTX with Aura Firmware v1.1 - v1.12

The original method to get OpenTX to work with Aura was to configure your OpenTX Transmitter model file to emulate a Futaba Transmitter. This method still works and is completely valid, but we've since improved the Aura Firmware to make OpenTX work natively with Aura.

You can follow the instructions below to make your OpenTX Transmitter emulate the channel orders, travel limits, and channel directions of a Futaba Transmitter. Or, feel free to update your Aura to a later firmware and use those instructions:

Choose an option below to proceed:

Create a new Transmitter model using our pre-configured Transmitter model file

  • We STRONGLY recommend downloading our pre-configured FrSky Transmitter Model File.
  • After downloading the FrSky Transmitter Model File, copy it to your FrSky SD Card, and use the 'Restore Model' function on a blank slot of the 'Model Selection' menu in your Transmitter.
  • This will create a Transmitter model named 'aura' with the appropriate transmitter settings.
  • This correctly sets up your OpenTX transmitter's Futaba SBUS channel order, travel limits, directions, and centers.
  • NOTE: The Aura will Auto-Detect the transmitter as Futaba rather than FrSky or OpenTX.

Modify an Existing Transmitter model

If you already have an existing FrSky Transmitter model you would like to use, additional details are provided below to update the model to work well with Aura.

  • In the 'INPUTS' menu:
    • Create a "Ch5/Gear" Input and assign it to a 3 position switch such as Switch SE.
    • Create a "Ch6/Aux1" Input and assign it to a 3 position switch such as Switch SB.
    • Create a "Ch7/Aux2" Input and assign it to a 3 position switch such as Switch SC.
    • Create a "Ch8/Aux4" Input and assign it to a 3 position switch such as Knob S2.
  • In the 'MIXER' menu:
    • Adjust the Channel order on the 'MIXER' menu to Ail, Ele, Thr, Rudder, Ch5/Gear, Ch6/Aux1, Ch7/Aux2, Ch8/Aux3.
  • In the 'OUTPUT' menu:
    • Reduce the travel limit on the throttle channel to 84%.
    • Ail, Ele, and Rud should have travel limits of 100%.
    • Reverse the direction of the Elevator and Throttle on the 'OUTPUT' menu.
    • set the "PPM Center" setting to 1530 so the stick's centered value matches the default Futaba standard for Ail, Ele, and Rudder on the 'OUTPUT' menu.
