Mamba 10 with Aura

The Mamba 10 ships with the Aura 8 Advanced Flight Control System (AFCS) pre-configured and ready for flight.

The Aura 8 AFCS is a 3 axis gyro, servo hub and channel expander all rolled into one device. We have developed the Aura 8 to be compatible with all major radio brands. You no longer need to spend a fortune, nor be restricted to specific radio types to experience state of the art control. The Aura 8 is designed to enhance the pilots experience, while not interfering with the pilots inputs. Your aircraft will fly as if it were bigger, and in less wind, even though it is as agile as you want it to be.

The Aura 8 - Mamba 10 version ships configured specifically for the Mamba 10. Our team has spent hours fine tuning the settings for the Mamba 10 to offer you an exceptional feel of accuracy and control.

With the Aura in the Mamba 10, the Gear (CH5) channel changes the Aura's Flight Mode. Each Flight Mode has specific rates, expos, and gyro settings (gains, stick priority, etc) for different maneuvers or flying styles. During flight, you can change the Flight Mode as desired for your flying style or for each type of maneuver you wish to complete.

During development of the Mamba 10, we wanted to give Expert pilots more options, so we've added the ability to choose your Flight Modes (Stock or Expert) with the Aura's Quick Set feature.

Mamba 10 Quick Set

The Aura 8 has a feature called 'Quick Set' that allows the pilot to change key settings only using their transmitter.

  • Quick Set can only be entered if the Aura is connected to the Receiver by a modern Digital Data connection (such as DSM2/DSMX Remote Receiver 'Satellites', Spektrum SRXL, Futaba S.Bus, JR Mode B, Graupner HOTT SUMD).
  • If you connected the Aura to a Receiver with traditional PWM Servo Connections, you cannot enter the Quick Set feature and must use the Aura Config Tool on the PC.
  • The Aura must be receiving a valid signal from the Receiver to start Quick Set. Make sure the Aura is correctly connected to the Receiver and that the Receiver and Transmitter are bound together.

The Mamba 10 Quick Set feature allows the user to change two settings:

  • Choose your Flight Modes - Stock or Expert
  • Enabled/Disable Master Gain via Ch8/Aux3 (Optional)
Mamba 10 Flight Modes

Mamba 10 - Stock Flight Modes

The Mamba 10 ships with the 'Stock Flight Modes' detailed below:

  • Flight Mode 1: Gyro Off
    • Rates are set for general flight (same as Stock Flight Mode 2: Sport)
    • Exponential is tuned for comfortable flight.
    • Gyro function is completely off
  • Flight Mode 2: Sport
    • For sport or precision aerobatics.
    • Rates are low, expo adjusted for smooth flight.
    • Gains are low.
  • Flight Mode 3: 3D
    • Rates are high and tuned for 3D.
    • Exponential is tuned for comfortable flight.
    • Gains are high.

Mamba 10 - Expert Flight Modes

Quick Set can be used to change the Mamba 10 to use the 'Expert Flight Modes'. There is no 'Gyro Off' flight mode in the Expert Flight Modes. The Expert Flight Modes are detailed below:

  • Flight Mode 1: 3D, High Airspeed
    • For high speed flying (half to full throttle) at high rates. Ideal for tumbling, or high energy aerobatics.
    • Rate for aileron is 70% while rudder and elevators travel at max deflection.
    • Gains are medium and expo is set high.
  • Flight Mode 2: Sport
    • For sport or precision aerobatics.
    • Rates are low, expo adjusted for smooth flight.
    • Gains are low.
  • Flight Mode 3: 3D, Slow Airspeed
    • Ideal for Harriers, torque rolls, hovering, waterfall, flat spins, or any other slow speed maneuvering.
    • Rates are maximum for all control surfaces.
    • Gains are highest.

Note: This mode is NOT meant for high speed flight. As the gains are at their highest, control surface oscillations may occur at high speeds which may lead to a potential crash.

Mamba 10 - Master Gain (Optional)

Master Gain can be enabled in Quick Set mode. Master Gain allows the pilot to scale the gyro gains up or down in flight using the Ch8/Aux3 channel. Normally this channel is set to a knob for easy adjustment.

Quick Set Procedure

Step 1 - Enter Quick Set mode

  • Make sure all power is off on the Mamba 10
    • Remove the prop before making changes
  • Turn on your transmitter
  • Remove the Servo lead from Aura Port S2.
  • Put a bind plug in Aura Port S2.
  • Plug in the Mamba 10 battery to power up the Mamba
  • The LEDs will repeatedly flash Orange 2x to indicate you are in the Quick Set mode. The Green LED will either be on SOLID or FLASH depending on the Gear Channel switch, additional details are below.

Step 2 - Choose Flight Modes

After entering Quick Set mode as described above, you toggle the Gear (CH5) channel switch on the transmitter to choose your flight modes. The Green LED indicates the selected Flight Mode.

  • If the Green LED is on SOLID, the Aura is set to use the Stock Flight Modes.
  • If the Green LED is BLINKING, the Aura is set to use the Expert Flight Modes.

Procedure to change the Aura Flight Modes

  1. Enter Quick Set mode as described above
  2. Use the Gear (CH5) channel switch to select the Stock or Expert Flight Modes.
    • If the Green LED is on SOLID, the Aura is set to use the Stock Flight Modes.
    • If the Green LED is BLINKING, the Aura is set to use the Expert Flight Modes.
  3. After selecting the Flight Modes, remove the bind plug save the settings.
  4. All the LEDs will turn on while the Aura is saving, then will go back to their previous state.
  5. Completely power off the Mamba 10 and Aura
  6. Replace the Servo Lead in Aura Port S2
  7. Power up and Fly as usual with your new Flight Modes!

Step 3 - Enable/Disable Master Gain (Optional)

Master Gain is turned OFF upon each entry to Quick Set Mode. Master Gain on Ch8/Aux3 can be enabled by sweeping the Ch8/Aux3 knob/slider back and forth. Enabling Master Gain requires a transmitter with at least 8 channels.

  • If the Red LED is on OFF, Master Gain is Disabled.
  • If the Red LED is on ON, Master Gain is Enabled.

Procedure to enable/disable Master Gain:

  1. Enter Quick Set mode as described above
  2. Sweep the Ch8/Aux3 channnel knob/slider back and forth to enable or disable Master Gain.
    • If the Red LED is on OFF, Master Gain is Disabled.
    • If the Red LED is on ON, Master Gain is Enabled.
  3. After selecting Master Gain functionality, remove the bind plug save the settings.
  4. All the LEDs will turn on while the Aura is saving, then will go back to their previous state.
  5. Completely power off the Mamba 10 and Aura
  6. Replace the Servo Lead in Aura Port S3
  7. Power up and Fly as usual with your new Flight Modes!
