JR Protocol Guide
This guide details JR DMSS Transmitters and Receivers. JR DSM2/DSMX protocol transmitters (JR 9303, JR 9503) should follow the Spektrum Use Guide
XBus
The best way to connect a JR DMSS receiver to an Aura is with their XBus Protocol. Depending on your Transmitter and Receiver, you can configure the XBus Port to output in JR Mode A or JR Mode B.
- JR Mode A (Preferred)
- High resolution, single cable digital data connection similar to Futaba SBUS
- Supported in Aura Firmware to v1.14+ which was released in August of 2020
- The Receiver XBus Port is connected to the Aura 5 or Aura 8's B Port, either the A Port or B Port can be used for Aura 8 Pro or Aura 12 Pro.
- When using JR Mode A, the other Servo Ports on the Receiver operate as normal servo ports
- JR Mode B
- High resolution, single cable digital data connection similar to Futaba SBUS
- Older, legacy protocol from JR similar to Spektrum SRXL
- The Receiver XBus Port is connected to the Aura 5 or Aura 8's B Port, either the A Port or B Port can be used for Aura 8 Pro or Aura 12 Pro.
- When using JR Mode B, the Servo Ports on the Receiver are disabled which is a big drawback especially for larger, more complex airplanes
Traditional PWM
The old school way to connect a Receiver to Aura but is more complicated, restrictive and not recommended for new setups.
- Supports virtually every receiver but lower resolution and more complicated
- Individually connect the Receiver Aileron, Elevator, Rudder, and Gear servo ports on your Receiver directly to a Servo Port setup as an Input on the Aura.
- Since multiple Aura Servo Ports are used in Inputs from the Receiver, there are less Gyro Stabilized Servo available to be used as Outputs
- Some features such as QuickSetup and QuickTrim are NOT supported with PWM connections.
JR Receiver Guide
The BX series of receivers is most commonly used with Aura. The RG712BX and RG812BX have been tested extensively and are known to work well with Aura.
BX Series (Preferred)
- Commonly used with Aura
- Feature a single dedicated XBus Port
BPX Series
- Often include different built-in power connector such as Deans, XT30, XT60, etc
- Does not have a single dedicated XBus Port
- The Servo Ports can be setup to be all Traditional PWM Outputs or all XBus Outputs.
- The servo ports are switched between PWM and XBus using the SENS/MODE port on the BPX receiver.
JR Transmitter Setup Guide
For best results, create a new default Transmitter model and adjust the Wing/Tail Type, End Points, and Assign the Flight Mode Switch as shown in the graphic below.

2. JR Elite and JR Matrix transmitters may need to Reverse Aileron and Rudder if Aura Auto-Detect is used. See Details below.
3. If Flight Modes are set to a channel other than CH5/Gear, set a 3-position switch to Flight Mode channel and use CH5/Gear as needed.
End Points (Travel Adjust or ATV)
- Aura is setup to expect a range of 1000 usec to 2000 usec for Ail/Ele/Rud and 1100 usec to 1900 usec for all other channels including Throttle
- JR Mode A and JR Mode B require different Travel End Points due to differences in JR's protocol to match the expected Aura input ranges.
- JR Mode A: Set Ail/Ele/Rud to +/-125%, Throttle at +/- 100%, all other channels should be left at their default travels.
- JR Mode B: Set Ail/Ele/Rud to +/-90%, Throttle at +/- 72%, all other channels should be left at their default travels.
- Throttle Travels End Points are most important for ESC Calibration, Throttle Mixes like Crow or Thrust Differential.
- Throttle End Points can always be adjusted in the Transmitter for Gas Engines.
- The values shown above set the Throttle to a standard 1100 usec to 1900 usec range.
Reversing
- Always start with all channels set to Transmitter Directions set to Normal as they are after creating a new Transmitter model.
- XG8, XG14, T14, and T44 Transmitters
- If creating a new Aura Config File, select the Transmitter Type as JR DMSS - XG8, XG14, T14, T44
- If an Aura Auto-Detects a JR Mode A or JR Mode B receiver, the Aura will correctly setup the channel order and channel directions.
- Matrix and Elite Transmitters
- New JR Transmitters such as the Elite and Matrix have Reversed the standard convention for Aileron and Rudder compared to XG8, XG14, T14, and T44.
- If creating a new Aura Config File, select the Transmitter Type as JR DMSS - Elite and Matrix.
- The Aura will then expect the different Elite and Matrix convention and you will not need to do any Reversing in the Transmitter.
- If an Aura Auto-Detects a JR Mode A or JR Mode B receiver, the Aileron and Rudder channels will probably need to Reverse the Aileron and Rudder.
- This occurs because Aura Auto-Detect can not differentiate between the different convention in Matrix/Elite Transmitters compared to XG8/XG14/T14/T44 Transmitters.
Flight Mode Switch
- Assign a 3-Position Flight Mode Switch to the Ch5 (Gear) Channel
- Ch5 (Gear) channel is used by default as the Flight Mode Switch by for almost all Aura configurations.
- If you are using a Generic Jet Wizard or other configuration where the Ch5 (Gear) channel is being used for another purpose, you will need to assign the Flight Mode switch to a different channel.
- The specific product manual will detail which channel is needed to assign to be assigned for the Flight Mode Switch.
- The Flight Mode channel can be adjusted in the Setup Tab of the Aura Config Tool.
