F-100D with Aura

The F-100D ships with the Aura 8 Advanced Flight Control System (AFCS) pre-configured and ready for flight.

The Aura 8 AFCS is a 3 axis gyro, servo hub and channel expander all rolled into one device. We have developed the Aura 8 to be compatible with all major radio brands. You no longer need to spend a fortune, nor be restricted to specific radio types to experience state of the art control. The Aura 8 is designed to enhance the pilots experience, while not interfering with the pilots inputs. Your aircraft will fly as if it were bigger, and in less wind, even though it is as agile as you want it to be.

The Aura 8 - F-100D version ships configured specifically for the F-100D. Our team has spent hours fine tuning the settings for the aircraft to offer you an exceptional feel of accuracy and control.

With the Aura in the F-100D, when using the Stock Configuration the transmitter's Aux 2 (CH7) channel changes the Aura's Flight Mode. Each Flight Mode has specific rates, expos, and gyro settings (gains, stick priority, etc) for different maneuvers or flying styles. During flight, you can change the Flight Mode as desired for your flying style or for each type of maneuver you wish to complete.

During development of the F-100D, we wanted to give Expert pilots more options, so we've added the ability to choose your Flight Modes (Stock or Expert) with the Aura's Quick Set feature.

F-100D Quick Set

The Aura 8 has a feature called 'Quick Set' that allows the pilot to change key settings only using their transmitter.

  • Quick Set can only be entered if the Aura is connected to the Receiver by a modern Digital Data connection (such as Spektrum SRXL, Futaba S.Bus, JR Mode B, Graupner HOTT SUMD, Jeti EX-Bus etc.).
  • If you connected the Aura to a Receiver with traditional PWM Servo Connections, you cannot enter the Quick Set feature and must use the Aura Config Tool on the PC.
  • The Aura must be receiving a valid signal from the Receiver to start Quick Set. Make sure the Aura is correctly connected to the Receiver and that the Receiver and Transmitter are bound together.

The F-100D Quick Set feature allows the user to select between two Aura profiles:

  • Stock or Expert
    • In Stock configuration, the Flight Modes are independently selected with the CH7 switch while the Flaps are moved with the CH6 switch.
    • In the Expert configuration, both the Flight Modes and Flap Positions are selected (synchronized) with the CH6 switch. Flight Modes change with Flap Position.

F-100D - Stock Flight Modes

The F-100D ships with the 'Stock Flight Modes' as detailed below. These Flight Modes are controlled by your transmitter's Aux 2 (CH7) channel:

  • Flight Mode 1: Gyro Off
    • Rates are set for general flight
    • Exponential is tuned for comfortable flight.
    • Gyro function is completely off
  • Flight Mode 2: Sport
    • For general flight.
    • Rates are low, expo adjusted for smooth flight.
    • Gains are low.
  • Flight Mode 3: High Rates
    • Rates are high and tuned for takeoffs and landings.
    • Exponential is tuned for comfortable flight.
    • Gains are low.

NOTE: Flaps are moved independently with CH6.

F-100D - Expert Flight Modes

Quick Set can be used to change the F-100D to use the 'Expert Flight Modes'. There is no 'Gyro Off' flight mode in the Expert Flight Modes, and Aura now uses the same channel/switch as Flaps to change Flight Modes with Flap Changes. The Expert Flight Modes are controlled by your transmitter's Aux 1 (Flap or CH6) channel. The expert flight modes are detailed below:

  • Flight Mode 1: Flaps Up, General Flight
    • Flaps up.
    • For general purpose flight
    • Rates are low, gains are low, and expo is tuned for comfortable flight.
  • Flight Mode 2: Takeoff
    • Flaps half
    • For takeoffs
    • Rates are medium, and expo adjusted for smooth flight.
    • Gains are medium.
  • Flight Mode 3: Landing
    • Flaps Full
    • For Landings
    • Rates are high and tuned for landing.
    • Exponential is tuned for comfortable flight
    • Gains are high.

Quick Set Procedure

Step 1 - Enter Quick Set mode

  • Make sure all power is off on the F-100D
  • Turn on your transmitter
  • Remove the Servo lead from Aura Port S2.
  • Put a bind plug in Aura Port S2.
  • Plug in the flight battery to power up the aircraft
  • The LEDs will repeatedly flash Orange 2x to indicate you are in the Quick Set mode. The Green LED will either be on SOLID or FLASH depending on the Flap/CH6/Aux1 Channel switch, additional details are below.

Step 2 - Choose Flight Modes

After entering Quick Set mode as described above, you toggle the Flap/CH6/Aux1 channel switch on the transmitter to choose your flight modes. The Green LED indicates the selected Flight Mode.

  • If the Green LED is on SOLID, the Aura is set to use the Stock Flight Modes.
  • If the Green LED is BLINKING, the Aura is set to use the Expert Flight Modes.

Procedure to change the Aura Flight Modes

  1. Enter Quick Set mode as described above
  2. Use the Flap/CH6/Aux1 channel switch to select the Stock or Expert Flight Modes.
    • If the Green LED is on SOLID, the Aura is set to use the Stock Flight Modes.
    • If the Green LED is BLINKING, the Aura is set to use the Expert Flight Modes.
  3. After selecting the Flight Modes, remove the bind plug save the settings.
  4. All the LEDs will turn on while the Aura is saving, then will go back to their previous state.
  5. Completely power off the aircraft and Aura
  6. Replace the Servo Lead in Aura Port S2
  7. Power-up, Verify function, and Fly as usual with your new Flight Modes!
