JR Protocol Guide
JR DMSS Transmitters and Receivers work great with Aura. Any old JR DSM2/DSMX protocol transmitters should follow the Spektrum Use Guide
XBus
The JR way to connect a JR receiver to an Aura is with their XBus Protocol. Depending on your Transmitter and Receiver, you can configure the XBus Port to output in JR Mode A or JR Mode B.
- JR Mode A (Preferred)
- High resolution, single cable digital data connection similar to Futaba SBUS
- Supported in Aura Firmware to v1.14+ which was released in August of 2020
- The Receiver XBus Port is connected to the Aura 5 or Aura 8's B Port, either the A Port or B Port can be used for Aura 8 Pro or Aura 12 Pro.
- When using JR Mode A, the other Servo Ports on the Receiver operate as normal servo ports
- JR Mode B
- High resolution, single cable digital data connection similar to Futaba SBUS
- Older, legacy protocol from JR similar to Spektrum SRXL
- The Receiver XBus Port is connected to the Aura 5 or Aura 8's B Port, either the A Port or B Port can be used for Aura 8 Pro or Aura 12 Pro.
- When using JR Mode B, the Servo Ports on the Receiver are disabled which is a big drawback especially for larger, more complex airplanes
Traditional PWM
The old school way to connect a Recever to Aura but is more complicated, restrictive and not recommended for new setups.
- Supports virtually every receiver but lower resolution and more complicated
- Individually connect the Receiver Aileron, Elevator, Rudder, and Gear servo ports on your Receiver directly to a Servo Port setup as an Input on the Aura.
- Since multiple Aura Servo Ports are used in Inputs from the Receiver, there are less Gyro Stabilized Servo available to be used as Outputs
- Some features such as QuickSetup and QuickTrim are NOT supported with PWM connections.
JR Receiver Guide
The BX series of receivers is most commonly used with Aura. The RG712BX and RG812BX have been tested extensively and are known to work well with Aura.
BX Series (Preferred)
- Commonly used with Aura
- Feature a single dedicated XBus Port
BPX Series
- Often include different built-in power connector such as Deans, XT30, XT60, etc
- Does not hav a single dedicated XBus Port
- The Servo Ports can be setup to be all Traditional PWM Outputs or all XBUS Outputs.
- The servo ports are switched between PWM and XBus using the SENS/MODE port on the BPX receiver.
